2013 Le Cirque Rouge....$13.99
Tasted from bottle, the 2013 Côtes Catalanes is a smoking blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah and the balance Carignan. Aged all in tank and coming from 50-year-old vines, it has tons of black raspberry, kirsch, licorice and spice to go with a medium to full-bodied, pure, polished style on the palate. It’s hard to resist now, and I see no reason to delay gratification. This will compete with 20-30 dollar southern Rhônes.

2014 Penya Cotes Catalanes Rouge....$11.99
Also terrific, the ruby/purple 2014 Côtes Catalanes (52% Grenache, 36% Carignan and the rest Syrah, aged all in tank) offers lots of kirsch and darker berry fruit, spring flowers, pepper and violet notes to go with a medium-bodied, supple, forward, lively feel. Like the 2013, this is a rocking value to drink over the coming couple of years.

2014 Les Darons Languedoc...$13.99
A wine that blew me away was the 2014 Languedoc Les Darons by Jeff Carrel. Still in barrel, it offers thrilling notes of black and blue fruits, violets, and peppery spice to go with a medium to full-bodied, elegant, seamless profile on the palate. A blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Carignan and 10% Syrah that was fermented and aged all in concrete tank, it has striking purity, integrated acidity and a great finish. It should drink nicely on release and have 7-8 years of overall longevity.

2013 Domaine Cabirau Cotes du Roussillon...$15.99
I loved the 2013 Côtes du Roussillon from Domaine Cabirau. A blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Carignan that was aged mostly in tank, it offers a voluptuous, sexy personality to go with lots of kirsch and black raspberry fruit, savory herbs, pepper and dried earth. This medium to full-bodied, complex, elegant red has a core of sweet fruit, fine tannin and a great texture, all of which come together nicely on the finish. It’s already hard to resist, and I see no reason to delay gratification. These blockbuster efforts are made at the coop in Tautavel. They more than over-deliver and offer classic Roussillon flair and texture, yet back it up with solid mid-palate concentration and sound structure. Don't miss them.

2013 Domaine Galaman AOP Fitou...$14.99
The 2013 Fitou Domaine Galaman (Carignan, Grenache and Syrah) is a fruity, forward effort that has loads of texture and richness. Offering plenty of mineral-tinged fruit, licorice and toast, it is medium to full-bodied, pure, up-front and already hard to resist. I don’t think it will make old bones, but it will certainly be a crowd-pleaser over the coming 3-4 years.
These solid efforts are made by Claude Gros, who also consults at Chateau de la Negly, and is one of the leading oenologists in the region

2011 Syrousse Cotes du Roussilon Villages....$14.99
The 2011 Syrousse is composed of 70% Syrah, 20% Grenache and 10% [Carignan]. Revealing lots of blackberry, cassis, camphor and licorice characteristics as well as a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel and a long finish, it should drink well for another 2-3 years.
Rated 90/100 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
A blend of 70% Syrah, 20% Grenache, and 10% Carignan that sees no oak whatsoever, the 2011 is a superb value that drinks well above its humble price point. Showing beautiful mineral-drenched blackberry styled fruit, wild herbs, licorice, and hints of pepper, it stays classy and focused on the palate. Medium-bodied, elegant, and fresh, with both juicy acidity and firm, yet ripe tannin lending focus and length on the finish, it should be purchased by the case, and consumed over the coming handful of years.
