2012 Jean Marc Pavelot Offering:
Sometimes it can be a hindrance when wines are uniformly good. As I quipped to Hugues Pavelot, a writer prefers to use a sliding rule of adjectives rather than synonyms for “excellent”. But I had no other recourse tasting through a scintillating set of Savigny-les-Beaune wines from quite possibly the village’s finest producer.- Neal Martin The Wine Advocate

We are extremely excited to offer a set of what we feel represent some of the best wines and certainly best values to come out of the outstanding but very small 2012 Vintage in Burgundy.

2012 Jean Marc Pavelot Savigny-les-Beaune Blanc
The single white is the 2012 Savigny-les-Beaune Village, sourced from two parcels in “Les Vermots” and “Les Planchots”. It has a perfumed bouquet with enticing dried mango, fresh pineapple and peach scents wafting gently from the glass. The palate is soft but generous on the entry. Well-balanced with lush pineapple and lime notes coming through towards the waxy textured finish, this should be delightful once in bottle. (88-90) The Wine Advocate

2012 Jean Marc Pavelot Savigny-les-Beaune
The 2012 Savigny-les-Beaune Village has a radiant bouquet with red currant and quince aromas that are nicely defined. The palate is smooth right from the start with a mixture of red and black fruit, sappy ripe tannins and a touch of white pepper sprinkled over the succulent finish. This is very satisfying for a village cru. 88/100 The Wine Advocate

2012 Jean Marc Pavelot Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode
The 2012 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode has an elegant, almost ethereal bouquet with floral notes, more rose petal than violets infusing the exceptionally pure mixture of red and black fruit. The palate is crisp and pointed on the entry: dark cherries, citrus lemon and blood orange all vying for attention, with an assertive grip on the focused, mineral-rich finish. Stunning. (93-95) The Wine Advocate

2012 Jean Marc Pavelot Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Les Guettes
The 2012 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Guettes has a refined, very feminine bouquet with laser-like precision, cut from the similar fine cloth as the Serpentieres. The palate errs towards the red fruit spectrum. The acidity is just perfectly judged lending this Savigny entrancing precision and focus. This is simply outstanding. (93-95) The Wine Advocate

2012 Jean Marc Pavelot Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Gravains
The 2012 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Gravains has another bright, vivacious bouquet with dark cherries, wild strawberry and blood orange overlaying some fine mineralite. Again, there is wonderful definition and vigor in situ. The palate is medium-bodied with a marine-influenced entry – hints of seaweed/iodine informing the dense black fruit. This has very good substance with a long, complex, mineral laden finish. Superb. (92-94) The Wine Advocate

2012 Jean Marc Pavelot Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Les Peuillets
The 2012 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Les Peuillets comes from a half-hectare parcel planted in 1954. It has a lifted, marine-influenced bouquet that is well-defined and fresh, already offering enticing blueberry and cassis aromas. The palate is very well-balanced with fine tannins and well-judged acidity. It is very harmonious towards the silky finish with a tingle on the tongue after the wine has departed. Excellent. (88-90) The Wine Advocate

2012 Jadot Coming in November

Grand Cru:
2012 Jadot Le Musigny Grand Cru
The 2012 Musigny Grand Cru is utterly beguiling on the nose: beautifully composed and refined with scents of blackberry and boysenberry fruit, forest floor and pressed flowers. The palate is supremely well balanced with perfect acidity slicing through the sophisticated dark berry fruit interlaced with spice and minerals. There is an effortless quality here that is totally captivating and it probably represents the apogee of Louis Jadot’s mammoth portfolio this year. (97-99) The Wine Advocate

2012 Jadot Chambertin Clos De Beze Grand Cru
The 2012 Musigny Grand Cru is utterly beguiling on the nose: beautifully composed and refined with scents of blackberry and boysenberry fruit, forest floor and pressed flowers. The palate is supremely well balanced with perfect acidity slicing through the sophisticated dark berry fruit interlaced with spice and minerals. There is an effortless quality here that is totally captivating and it probably represents the apogee of Louis Jadot’s mammoth portfolio this year. (95-97) The Wine Advocate, (95-98) Tanzer

2012 Jadot Gevrey Chambertin Clos St Jacques 1er Cru
A beautifully complex and airy nose features ripe aromas of exuberantly spicy plum, violet, sauvage and essence of red currant. There is a very round and velvety mouth feel to the delicious medium weight flavors that somehow manage to retain a good sense of delineation and energy on the overtly mineral-inflected and wonderfully long finish. I very much like the sense of harmony where the fine-grained tannins add to that impression. This should be excellent in time though note that it will require a minimum of 10 years of cellar time before this is approachable and another 5 to 7 before it arrives at its peak. (92-95) Burgound, (92-94 Wine Advocate, 92-94 Tazner)

2012 Jadot Nuits St George Les Boudots 1er Cru
A heady nose of very strong menthol and wood toasty aromas barely allows the cassis, spice and earth scents to be appreciated. The flavor profile is notably denser and more serious than either the Vaucrains or Les St. Georges as is the finish that is powerful, complex, mouth coating and imposingly long. This should reward longer-term cellaring and note that it will definitely need at least a decade first. (91-94) Burghound, (91-94) Tanzer

2012 Jadot Corton Pougeots Grand Cru Beaune
Bright, dark red. Raspberry and spice aromas lifted by crushed stone. Sappy and energetic, with a classic dryness to the intense flavors of red fruits, menthol and minerals. Really saturates the palate with flavor and builds on the long, vibrant finish. A classic vintage for this cuvee, thanks to the strong stony element (91-93) Tanzer, (92-94) Wine Advocate, (91-94) Burghound

2012 Jadot Beaune Clos de Ursules
This is aromatically quite similar to the Boucherottes with perhaps just a bit more floral influence. The mouth feel is also comparable because while there is excellent volume and intensity, the texture of the medium-bodied flavors is notably refined, all wrapped in a moderately austere, concentrated and driving finish. This is an interesting exercise in contrasts with a polished mid-palate juxtaposing against a robust, serious and old school finish. This will require ample patience. (90-93) Brughound,(91-93) Wine Advocate

2012 Claude Dugat:
2012 Claude Dugat Griotte Chambertin Grand Cru
(just 1-1/4 barrels produced): Good bright red. Wilder and deeper on the nose than the Charmes, with a dark fruit character, an element of smoky minerality and a whiff of meaty reduction. Like liquid silk in the mouth but its compelling sweetness is perfectly counterpointed by lively, integrated acidity. This, too, is consistent from nose to long aftertaste. The fully ripe tannins are suave and sweet. A beauty in the making. (93-96) Tanzer, (95-98) Galloni

2012 Claude Dugate Gevrey Chambertin Lavaux St Jacques
The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux St. Jacques is all about layers, texture and tactile elegance. Dark red cherry, plum, spice, licorice and new leather resonate on the palate. Vibrant saline notes complement the creamy, voluptuous fruit in a drop-dead gorgeous Burgundy bursting with pure personality and class. (94-96) Galloni

2012 Meo Camuzet:
2012 Meo Camuzet Clos Vougeot
The 2012 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, which sees almost 100% new oak, has quite a sensual bouquet underneath that carapace of new oak that is embroidered nicely with the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe but firm tannins that lend this Clos de Vougeot bewitching symmetry. Silky smooth in texture, it feels long and assertive on the finish, but never over-powering. Excellent.
(93-95) Wine Advocate, (92-94) Tanzer

2012 Meo Corton Perrieres
Medium red. Sexy, soil-driven aromas of red berries, flowers, earth and mint. Sweet, fine-grained and delicate, with a touch of herbs to the raspberry flavor. Not at all a fleshy style but prettier than usual for this wine, which tends to be severe in the early going. Finishes with very good length and cut. (91-93) Tazner
