The best of Portugal!
2021 Quinta do Popa Bastardo Douro Red...$39.99
My coup de coeur and absolute favorite is the pale, floral and delicate red 2021 Pôpa Bastardo, produced with the Trousseau grape from Jura. It's a real beauty produced with grapes from a vineyard that is not yet 20 years old on schist soils at 400 meters above sea level. It fermented with full clusters and indigenous yeasts in lagar, pressed and finished fermenting in stainless steel and then aged in those stainless steel tanks for 12 months. It's fine-boned, with an ethereal twist to it, elegant and full of energy, with very fine tannins. It does not lack clout, with its 14% alcohol and supple flavors that fill your palate and stay with you for a long time. 3,333 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2022. It's aging slowly and very nicely.
