2017 Jean Marc Pavelot

2017 Jean Marc Pavelot

Rarely do we get a chance to bring in a range of such highly rated Burgundies at these prices. Jean Marc Pavelot is top of the mark when it comes to Savigny les Beaune. His line up of 2017's offer some of the greatest values we have seen from Burgundy. These beauties will drink well in their youth and provide pleasure for the next couple of decades:

2017 Jean Marc Pavelot Savigny les Beaune...$31.99
The 2017 Savigny-lès-Beaune Village has a pure blackberry, raspberry and subtle briar bouquet that really blossoms in the glass (while Hugues Pavelot and I discuss whole bunches addition – of which there is none here, by the way). The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, grainy tannin, nice structure and gentle grip toward the almost nonchalant finish. Enjoy this over the next five to seven years. Delicious.

2017 Jean Marc Pavelot Savigny les Beaune Les Guettes 1er Cru...$46.99
The 2017 version of aux Guettes from Hugues Pavelot is an utterly classic expression of this fine terroir. The first class bouquet is pure and already impressively complex, delivering scents of black cherries, sweet dark berries, raw cocoa, a lovely mix of spice tones, dark soil elements, a touch of mustard seed and a nicely discreet base of cedary oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, refined in profile and beautifully sappy at the core, with excellent complexity, ripe, seamless tannins and lovely backend mineral drive on the focused and perfectly balanced young finish. This is gorgeous wine. 2023-2060+.

2017 Jean Marc Pavelot Savigny les Beaune Aux Gravins 1er Cru...$51.99
The 2017 aux Gravains from Domaine Pavelot is another absolutely stellar young wine in the making. The aromatic constellation here is pure and elegant, wafting from the glass in a superb mix of red and black cherries, a touch of red currant, Savigny spices, raw cocoa, orange peel, gamebird, stony soil elements, cedar and a nice topnote of mustard seed. On the palate the wine is deep, full and very transparent in profile, with sappy core of very pure fruit, great length and grip and a youthfully complex, vibrant and beautifully precise finish. This will need a bit of bottle age to really start to hit on all cylinders, but it is going to be stellar when it is ready to drink. 2024-2065.

2017 Jean Marc Pavelot Savigny les Beaune Dominode 1er Cru...$56.99 / 750ml
2017 Jean Marc Pavelot Savigny les Beaune Dominode 1er Cru...$116.99 / Magnum
The 2017 la Dominode is the most structured young Savigny premier cru in the cellars, but its potential is enormous. The youthful nose was still in the process of absorbing its serving of new oak, but will do so seamlessly with a bit more age, and offers up a fine blend of black plums, red and black cherries, pigeon, dark soil tones, raw cocoa, a bit of bonfire, cedar and an exotic topnote of licorice. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nicely reserved out of the blocks, with an excellent core of fruit, fine-grained tannins and a long, soil-driven and complex finish. This is serious juice. 2026-2065+.

A bonus 2015 Magnum offer as well:
2015 Jean Marc Pavelot Savigny les Beaue Dominode 1er Cru...$124.99 / Magnum
The 2015 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Dominodes is cut from the same cloth as the Aux Gravains, albeit with more floral scents and more red fruit. It is just as beautifully defined and seductive though. The palate is medium-bodied with silky smooth tannin, superb mineralité, immense cohesion and energy that spills over on the chalky-textured finish. This is (yet another) outstanding 2015 from Domaine Pavelot who frankly has done little wrong this vintage
