Ridge Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Estate

2014 Ridge Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Estate...$57.99
One of the many highlights in this range, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is terrific. The effects of the drought and resulting heat stress come through in the wine's structural feel and bold, incisive flavors. Even with all of its intensity, the 2014 has a certain silkiness in its tannins that makes it approachable today. Of course, the 2014 will be even better in another few years, but opening a bottle on the early side is not a crime. The 2014 spent 27 months in French oak. Readers who are looking for a more affordable alternative to Ridge's iconic Monte Bello should consider the 2014 Estate. Look for the Estate to be a real overachiever in 2014 as well as one of the best - possibly the best - California Cabernet in its price range.

Paolo Scavino Barolo scores 95

2013 Paolo Scavino Barolo Monvigliero...$57.99
The 2013 Barolo Monvigliero really jumps out, thanks to its larger-than-life flavor profile and its impressive intensity. The wine shows ripe fruit aromas of dark cherry and plum, but it balances those aromas very nicely against spice, dark tobacco and crushed mineral. The effect is elegant and polished, and the tannins add ample support at the back. This wine promises a slow evolution over time. Paolo Scavino raises the banner high for the Monvigliero cru.

Ayate Tequila Reposado

Ayate Tequila Reposado....$63.99
Each individual agave is selected by Rosendo Ramirez Senior who has been farming in the region for his entire life. The hearts of the plant (piñas) are then expertly extracted by jimadors that have worked the fields for decades.
The piñas are transported to the distillery, the core is removed and then they are precisely cut into four segments, which is a labor intensive and rare process. Roasting takes place in an autoclave with a proprietary process and the sweet juices are slowly coaxed out of the pinas and separated for fermentation.

The distillation is done in a traditional copper pot still to emphasize and extrapolate the most complex esters. The Reposado is aged for four months in new American oak barrels followed by four months of finishing in Chardonnay barrels. The tequila is cut with spring water sourced from the property. Bottling takes place by hand on site at Casa Ramirez. The custom bottle, designed by Dave, is produced in Mexico and hand painted with precious metals.

Founders DKML Imperial Malt Liquor

Limited release

More just arrived!
Founders DKML Imperial Malt Liquor...$12.99 / 4pk
Founders DKML Imperial Malt Liquor...$3.99 / 12oz
Aged in Bourbon Barrels
Here you have what could be the first malt liquor worthy of a glass. Typically a slighted style, we thought we would class it up with a stay in the wood and a healthy dose of dry-hopping. A huge hit of corn gives this one a smooth sweetness while its time spent aging in bourbon barrels will give you reason to share. Be warned: this one’s a pry-off, not a twist-off.

Nikka Coffey Still Gin and Vodka

"Coffey Still" - a traditional continuous still

Nikka "Coffey Still" Gin....$39.99
This is a Gin produced by Nikka Whisky, integrating its decades of experience in distilling white spirits and blending whiskies.  All of the base distillate comes through the "Coffey Still", a traditional continuous still which produces Nikka's signature grain whiskies, giving this gin a silky texture and rich body.  Its aromatic complexity relies on the delicate balance of various botanicals including Japanese citrus such as Yuzu, Kabosu, and Amanatsu.  There is a also a touch of apples, a fruit deeply related to the history of Nikka, followed by pleasantly tangy hints of Japanese Sansho pepper on the finish.

Nikka "Coffey Still" Vodka....$35.99
This Vodka is produced by Nikka Whisky, integrating its decades of experience in distilling white spirits and blending whiskies.  The secret behind the extremely smooth and delicate taste is the distillation in a "Coffey Still", a traditional continuous still which produces Nikka's signature grain whiskies.  Selected distillate made from corn and barley are blended by experts and carefully refined with white birch charcoal.  This purest expression of the Nikka Coffey range perfectly captures the exquisite fullness brought by the Coffey Still.

New wines from the Seghesio family

New wines from the Seghesio family....
In 1896, my great-grandfather, an immigrant from Italy, purchased a plot of land boasting a young vineyard for 10 gold coins he earned working as a cook in California’s gold mines. With its fog, cobbled hillsides and proximity to the ocean this special place reminded him of his hometown for which he named it, San Lorenzo. At the same time, my paternal grandfather, already a winemaker in California, planted his stake in the same area founding Seghesio Family Vineyards and Winery. Eventually, my parents would meet over a grape purchase at San Lorenzo.

Today it is my privilege to steward the San Lorenzo planting and honor this iconic 120 year old vineyard with its own label. Walking this vineyard humbled by my rich history in the California wine industry, I began Journeyman with my wife and sons to share with them this craft that has sustained our family for generations.

---- Peter Seghesio

2015 Journeyman Russian River Valley Chardonnay...$46.99

488 Cases
Journeyman Chardonnay is a blend of four extraordinary vineyards: Zio Tony, Lucky Well, Dutton and the famed Ritchie Vineyard. Carefully harvesting select portions of these famed sites in the middle of the night and at the peak of maturation, we are able to achieve great depth of flavor from this noble grape. Flavor accents of red apple, 'chablis-like' limestone and white blossoms accented with fine French oak tannins surround the creamy palate of this complex wine.

2015 San Lorenzo Estate Rockgarden Zinfandel....$46.99

425 cases
Produced from the steepest part of our San Lorenzo Estate, this vineyard derives its name from the large cobbles that challenge it to produce. The Padrone clone, a favorite from my many days walking acres of Sonoma County’s zinfandel vineyards purchasing for Seghesio, was my choice for this site just below our home. Grapes are harvested at night, double sorted, then placed in small 4-ton, open-top tanks where they cold-soak for 5 days at 55°. Punch-downs and pump-overs ensue until day 6 when we turn off the cooling and inoculate to begin fermentation.
Aging 100% François Frères (1/3 each new, one-year old and two year old barrels)

The Bruery Saule Barrel Aged

more in stock now
The Bruery Saule Barrel Aged....$24.99
Saule is French for “willow”, a traditional nine-year anniversary gift. Our ninth anniversary ale, Saule, follows in the footsteps of our anniversary releases before it, which are loosely based on an English-style old ale, fermented with our house yeast strain, aged in bourbon barrels and blended using the solera method. This means that a portion of each anniversary ale is saved in oak barrels and blended in with the next year’s production, providing more complexity and depth of character as the years go by. The result is layered in robust and complex flavors of toffee, caramel, dark fruit, vanilla and oak.

Prairie Artisan Ales new releases ---

Good supply!
Prairie ArtisanTwist....$8.99 / 4pk

Good Supply
Prairie Artisan Ales Prison Rodeo Double IPA with Coffee....$11.99 / 4pk
Big IPA base with a good amount of the coffee that they use in Bomb
We have been using coffee in beer for years. What began with Bomb! eventually made an appearance in Okie and Noir. Roast and chocolate and dark flavors dominated these beers. They were what most people would expect from a coffee beer. While loving these beers we also knew we could do a lot more with coffee. We knew there was an array of flavors in coffee and beer that would be great together. We wanted to take a different approach.
Prison Rodeo is that approach to coffee and beer. We started with a beer (maybe it was an IPA) full of juicy and citrus hops. It was about as far as we could get from a stout. We needed a coffee to stand up to and compliment the hops. We needed a coffee that was just as fruity and refreshing. Our friends at Spaceship Earth Coffee sourced multiple samples for us to pick from. After cupping numerous coffees this natural-process Ethiopia Sidamo Guji really stood out. We could tell the coffee was going to add another dimension to the beer.

We were careful to add just enough coffee to amplify but not dominate the beer. In the glass the beer is full of those bright, delicate fruit aromas before fading into a slight but noticeable roast aroma.

Plus more Prairie BOMB! is back in stock too!!

Stillwater Cellar Door....$8.49 / 4pk 12oz cans
over the ages the term 'cellar door' has numerously been referred to as the most beautiful term in the English language. upon setting out to create the first summer addition to the Stateside line up of ales; the feeling that almost instantly came to me was that of beauty & cleansing. many summer offerings tend to lack the complexity of their bigger, colder season counterparts; so my goal was to craft an ale of extreme balance with a delicate complexity that allows for contemplation while also providing quaffable refreshment.

starting with a base of German wheat & pale malts this crisp slightly hazy foundation was then accented with a blend of Sterling & Citra hops providing a intricate blend of herbal grass & tangerine citrus flavors and aroma. to pull this all together and to complete the 'cleansing' aspect of my vision i gently finished the ale off with a touch of white sage, lending a mild earthy spice character to the blend. of course let's not forget our house saison yeast that brought all the elements together leaving a dry yet intricate finish.

Against the Grain

Against the Grain Citra Ass Down...$12.99 / 4pk 16oz Cans
Citra ass down and crush this beer!
This is a very hop forward American style IPA. Brewed with Pale, Vienna, Munich and wheat malt for a solid base for all American hops, focusing mainly on the variety “Citra.” Citra hops are a relatively new variety introduced in 2008. It was bred as a hybrid of a number of different hops, including Hallertauer Mittelfrüh, U.S. Tettnanger, East Kent Golding, Bavarian, Brewers Gold, and other unknown hops. The resulting hop, Citra, has a distinct citrusy and tropical fruit flavor and aroma. In Citra ass down we used American Columbus for bittering and 11# of Citra at the end of the boil for late kettle addition flavor and aroma. Then we added 6 more pounds Citra and 5# Centennial post fermention for aroma. Rebrewed for your tasting pleasure!

Against the Grain A Beer APA...$12.99 / 4pk 16oz
Walk up to the bar and what do you ask for? A Beer, naturally. It doesn't always matter what it is, or what you want in this case. You want something light? We've got A Beer for you. You want something hop forward? We've got A Beer for you. You just want to camp out on that bar stool and crush something? We've got ABeer for you. We're only marginally apologetic that it's not kettle soured with Mosaic & Amarillo hops. This is better. This is a straight forward, refreshing extra pale ale utilizing the newest varieties of German aroma hops (Hallertau Blanc & Mandarina Bavaria). Call it a session IPA if you need, call it a pale ale if you prefer, hell, it doesn't matter what you call it, what matters is that you stop talking about it and throw ABeer down yer gullet.
ABV: 4.2%

Against the Grain Coq de la Marche...$14.99 / 4pk cans
Vous etes le coq de rien. Suffice it to stay, some beers are meant to be the cocks of walks, and some are not.
This Session Saison safely falls into step with those beers striding confidently along that most fateful walk. Brewed with a dash of spelt and a healthy late hop addition this fine, frothy friend was fermented warm to perfect attenuation and carbed up high for a flavor that is at once bright, rich, juicy and ultra crisp. Strut your stuff, man.
ABV: 5.8% IBU: 31.1

BRC - Reminder

BRC - Beer Reward Club

BRC - BREWard info - Free to join
This is the only way to get bees like Side Project Brewing, Perennial Abraxas, Cantillon, Founders KBS, Goose Island Rare and BCS and so on.....

There is no charge to sign up

Your phone number will be your account number. After you sign up, you must give your phone number without the area code every time you check out at any of our stores. Your name will appear on your receipt. If your name is not on the receipt you are not getting credit for the purchase. Tell the checker immediately if your name is not on your receipt. You can join if you are out of town also. When you place an order, just put you want to join the BRC program and we will start tracking your puchases.

Here is how we allocate the beer....

We have been basing the allocation on the previous 6 months sales. We feel 6 months is a good amount of time to reward regular customers. I feel that is a good amount of time to let new people sign up and get in on the allocations. We have also been rotating how we allocate. We use a few methods.

Based on overall sales
Based on beer only sales
Sometimes if we get 50 bottles we send out an email to the top 100 and say first come first served at the store.
Sometimes it is based on a particular brewery like the top Founders purchasers will get KBS.
Sometimes we will still do online fastest finger method.

More info
We do still randomly put special beers out on the shelf for shoppers to find.

VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure you give your phone number each time you check out. This is how your purchases will be tracked. Sometimes if you are buying a lot of beer the checker will ask you if you are a member, but when it gets busy they might forget. Just tell them when you are checking out you are a member of the BRC at any time while they are scanning your stuff. Plus, this time of year we will have some holiday help that will be working at the register that might not ask as they will be part time and new. Your name should appear on your receipt, if it does not, tell the checker immediately because that means your purchases are not being tracked. Even if you place an order online for pick up, that does not automatically register. Give your phone number when you check out. Reserved orders do not count on your BRC, they must be picked up and rung through the register.

Our POS system will randomly select a BRC member -- when you check out, a message will pop up on our screen saying something like "you have been allocated a bottle of [insert super rare beer name here]. Again, as a way of rewarding people for shopping in the store. This will be totally random and we will not know until you actually go to purchase something and this note will pop up.

Important releases...
TWCP Beer Fest Tickets: Beer Fest is October 14 this year - we will use the BRC to sell the tickets
Side Project Beers go through the BRC. Since they do not have any "regular" beers to support, it will either be based on overall beer sales or total sales including cheese, liquor and wine.

Perennial Abraxas: goes through the BRC.  It will be allocated based heavily on Perennial support throughout the year.  (usually released in November) - we have a lot of great Perennial in stock now

Goose Island BCS and Variants - based heavily on Goose Island support through the year.  Usually released the day after Thanksgiving each year.

Founders KBS (and CBS, we hear it might be coming this year):  Based heavily on Founders support.

some other beers will be based on support of that brewery also.

WRC - Info about Pappy Van Winkle and other bourbons

    Whiskey Reward Club

It is that time of year again, fall releases of rare whiskey.  People start wondering about Pappy Van Winkle and other releases.  It is a good time to re-post this again.   Pappy and BTAC usually arrives late November/December

    FAQ:
How do I get Pappy Van Winkle and BTAC?
The only way to get Pappy Van Winkle and Buffalo Trace Antique Collection is through our Whiskey Reward Club. This year's release will be based on 12 months purchases.  The 12 months prior to this year's release.  We will announce the cut off date as we get closer.   As you may know, many people come out of the woodwork this time of year just looking for Pappy, but we want to reward people that have supported us all year long.

How do I get other rare whiskey?
Through our WRC + random bottles will appear on the shelf without notice + through our WRC Pop up program (see more info below). The Pappy Van Winkle Raffle will include some other limited releases that come in between now and the raffle too.

I signed up for the WRC, but I have not received any emails about rare bottles of Whiskey?
We do not generally send out offerings to the whole list, only people whose name was drawn in the weighted raffle get emails informing them that they received a bottle. More info on the weighted raffle below.  Odds are still slim on limited releases.  We are doing the best we can.

How does the weighted raffle work?
How much do I have to spend?

Having accumulated enough data since we started the WRC, we have decided that for every 300 dollars you spend over the course of the 6 months prior to a release (an average $50 per month) you will get one raffle ticket in the lottery. If you spend $800 we will divide by $300 and round (800/300= 2.67, so you would get 3 tickets in the weighted raffle). This way people will not be in the dark on where they stand. You do not have to worry if you are at the top of the list, if you spend more than $300 over the course of the last 6 months, you are in the raffle for the current release. We still take half of our allocation and that goes to the top of the list of WRC and the rest is used for the weighted raffle.  For the Pappy Van Winkle release, it will be $600 for each raffle ticket since it is based over 12 months.  Still an average of $50 a month.

What counts towards the WRC in my purchases?

Everything you purchase counts:  wine, beer, whiskey, tequila, cheese, soda, nuts....everything in our store will count.

Can I retro my previous sales if I just signed up?
No, sorry there is no fair way to do this. We have been advertising on our blog, emails, twitter, facebook for a long time now about the WRC to sign up and telling people that this is how rare releases will be sold.

What are my chances on rare bottles of whiskey?
We do not want to give false hopes. Many releases we get 6 bottles or less, the odds still are not great. We have around 1,500 people in our WRC program now. This is why we started the WRC, how do you decide who gets these 6 bottles of rare whiskey out of thousands of great customers at all of our locations. We are just trying to be as fair as possible.

WHISKEY REWARD CLUB INFO: - This will be the only way to receive Pappy Van Winkle, the Orphan Barrels, Four Roses Limited Releases, Buffalo Trace Experimental, Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, Laphroaig limited releases, Balvenie Tun, limited Japanese Whiskey, and so on with other rare whiskeys.

Your phone number without the area code will be your account number. After you sign up, you must give your phone number without the area code (or last name) every time you check out at any of our stores.Your name will appear on your receipt at the bottom. If your name is not on the receipt you are not getting credit for the purchase. Tell the checker immediately if your name is not on your receipt (or the wrong name is on your receipt).  If you have family members or friends that do not care about rare whiskey, yes you can tell them to put their purchases under your account too.

Here is how we will allocate Whiskey
We base the allocation on the previous 6 months sales at the time of the release (12 months for Pappy, see above). We feel 6 months is a good amount of time to reward regular customers. We also feel that is a good amount of time to let new people sign up and eventually get in on the allocations. The goal of the program is to reward people that shop at the store on a regular basis. We can obviously sell Pappy Van Winkle 1000 times over, but we want to get them in the hands of our regular customers. Without our regulars, we would not be able to get these bourbons. There is no fair way to decide on these, we feel this is the best.

Release of bottles will be based on your total purchases: wine, liquor, beer, cheese, nuts...everything in the store.
The releases will still be a raffle method. But it will be a weighted raffle. The more you spend the better chance you will have as you will get more raffle tickets for each release. We take half of our allocation and that goes to the top of the list and the other half we use a weighted raffle. Now that we have received enough data, we have decided that over the course of 6 months, for every $300 dollars you will get a ticket in the lottery (spending $50 per month). If you spend $600, you will get 2 tickets and so on.

Another way to get bourbons if you join
We will still put random rare whiskey out on the shelf for shoppers to find.  Yes, we do!
Our POS system also allows us to randomly select a Reward member -- when you check out, a message will pop up on our screen saying something like "you have been allocated a bottle of Rare Whiskey from our Rare Whiskey shelf". Again, as a way of rewarding people for shopping in the store. This will be totally random and we will not know until you actually go to purchase something and this note will pop up. This has been very successful in our Beer Reward Club. You will only be allowed to win once every 6 months, then it will reset again.

    More important information:
We will post updates when whiskey is coming and when allocation emails have been sent.
You will get an email if you get an allocated whiskey, you have 7 days to pick up or we will draw another name.
There is no fee to sign up, it is free to join.
VERY IMPORTANT: After you sign up, make sure you give your phone number each time you check out. This is how your purchases will be tracked. Sometimes when it gets busy the checker might forget ask you. Just tell them when you are checking out that you are a member of the one of our reward clubs. You do not need to mention if it is beer or whiskey. Plus, we will have some holiday help that will be working at the register that might not ask as they will be part time and new. Your name should appear on your receipt, if it does not, tell the checker immediately because that means your purchases are not being tracked.

You can join if you shop our online store also.
You can be a member of both of our reward clubs. Beer Reward Club and Whiskey Reward Club - you can "order" free memberships to both online.

Guidelines are subject to change. We will evolve the system to make it better based on customer comments and when we see fit. We have been evolving the Beer Reward Club over the past few years and it seems to be getting better and better. We will always give notice when we adjust the guidelines.
