A boldly flavored whiskey treat made with 100% High West Pot Still Rye. Made in accordance with the standards laid out by the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897, it’s a whiskey that does everything right. One base spirit, crafted at a single distillery, by a single distiller, in a single distilling season. Must be aged a minimum of 4 years and bottled at 100 proof in a federally bonded warehouse.

What is Bottled in Bond:

• It must be the product of one distillation season (January–June or July–December) from a single distillery.
• Aged for at least four years in a federally bonded warehouse.
• Bottled at exactly 100 proof (50% ABV).
• The label must state the distillery where it was made and, if different, where it was bottled.

These regulations ensure consistency and quality, stemming from the 1897 Bottled-in-Bond Act.

Aged in 50% new and 50% second-use American Oak from the Duncan family's The Oak cooperage in Higbee, Missouri. Matt Duncan joined me for my tasting, and he says the Petit Verdot in the blend, of which there is 0.4%, is co-fermented with the Cabernet Sauvignon, intended to bring focus to the Cabernet fruit. A compelling, brooding, muscular rendition of Cabernet from Alexander Valley with gorgeous boysenberry notes, black currants, and rose petals laced with vanillin notes and toasty oak. Medium to full-bodied with black currants, ripe blackberry and black cherry notes framed by velvety tannins laced with that irresistible vanillin note. Toasty oak spices lend a hint of sweetness, balanced by grippy acidity. Long and complex, revealing umami, garrigue, and crushed slatestone on the finish. It's a terrific wine from the Alexander Valley.

Pure black currants on the nose with an incredible al dente grape character. It’s almost like grape must. Undertone of ink and violets and sandalwood. Perfumed. Hints of spearmint. Full-bodied, but so well-formed and reserved. A touch of mint on the palate with dark fruits. It is very complete and reminds me of the classy Spottswoode 2001. I keep being impressed with the purity of fruit with the earthy undertones and stones. Savory. A fitting 40th anniversary wine. 90% cabernet sauvignon, 7% cabernet franc, and 3% petit verdot. Best after 2027.

Slated for a September 2024 release, Spottswoode's 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon comes across as more vibrant, floral and fresh than the 2020. Violet and cassis notes are accented by hints of crushed stone and pencil shavings on the nose. Hugely complex yet harmonious, this medium-bodied effort is firm but silky in feel, with a long, elegant finish. Lovely stuff.

So balanced and refined. Subtle. Didn’t include wine from vineyards in Atlas Peak this year. An excellent 2020. Drinkable, but will improve so well in the cellar.

As Thanksgiving day arrived, we gathered around the table, hands joined in gratitude for the abundance that surrounded us. The meal was a celebration of the harvest, each dish a testament to the farm's bounty and the love that went into its cultivation and as we shared stories and laughter, there was the warmth and contentment that filled the room.

A bouquet of rich caramel, vanilla bean, and toasted oak, balanced by an underlying sweetness of dark fruits, like dried cherries or figs. This bourbon is rich and full-bodied, with flavors of dark chocolate, toffee, and brown sugar taking the forefront.  The finish is long and warming, with lingering spice, toasted oak, and a slight smokiness. The sweetness from the caramel and vanilla persists, balanced by the heat from the proof.

A unique blend of Grenache, Cinsault, Mourbedre and Tibouren, a unique grape variety in Provence, the Cuvée Château Pas du Cerf Rosé is a true pearl of Provence, the alliance of subtlety and character. This wine of choice seduces with the femininity of its pale pink color as well as its aromatic complexity and minerality.  A pretty pale pink with salmon highlights, clean and shiny. A beautifully intense nose with aromas of spices, peach and citrus fruits such as lemon and grapefruit are discovered. The whole is accompanied by notes of anise and acacia. Located right near St. Emilion, this is a great Right Bank Style Bordeaux
A beautiful cherry red color. The nose is dominated by red berry fruit with hints of cocoa and candied fruit. A well balanced palate with a sweet attack, leading to a soft and round finish full of ripe, fresh fruit.   Merlot and Malbec are complementary when it comes to making a fruity yet elegant wine. On the nose, fresh plums, cherries, blackcurrants, violets and pine. Creamy and soft, with a full body and ripe tannins. Well-balanced wine that pairs very easily in every season.
This is a fantastic value made by a great Bordeaux Family- Franc de Ferriere. The family vineyard is located to the east of the Bordeaux wine region, about 25 minutes from Saint-Emilion. Wines of the Franc de Ferriere family originate from a unique area on the hills of the Dordogne river, giving the appellation all of its originality and grace.
