2023 Christophe Lapierre Domaine de Chênepierre Chénas Vieilles Vignes....$16.99
This has lightly spiced mineral character with wild berries, hints of juniper and violets. Medium-bodied, it has polished texture, vivid acidity, a core of fleshy fruit and a round, medium-long finish. Drink now.
Rated 91/100 James Suckling
2023 Chapoutier Combe Pilate Viognier $22.99
Pale gold with aniseed-colored highlights. The nose is delicate with notes of bergamot and flint stone. Very fresh on the palate, dominated by the typical Viognier flavors. On the mid-palate, there is good balance between the acidic tension associated with its terroir of origin and the natural full body of the varietal and its ageing. The finish is savory, bringing out the rustic and mineral overtones.
Aaron's pick for wine of the year!
2023 Domaine Sauzet Haute Cote de Beaune “Jardin du Calvaire” $57.99
The 2023 Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Blanc, Jardin du Calvaire, by Etienne Sauzet is a crisp, taut, and tense white with ripe green apple, bright lime notes, and an elegant floral character. Winemaker Benoît Riffault feels that the heat of the vintage helped with ripening; this is not a rigid or tart expression of the Hautes-Côtes. There is some grip and texture behind, though the crisp tang wins out. The finish is really fine, with mouth-watering acidity keeping the alcohol nicely in check. The wine was aged in foudres from François Frères
