Harking back to times of old and a Christmas soon to come, we’re introducing another rare treat from our Vault, a two year old Calvados Barrel Aged Old Ale. Sitting elegantly in our new 375ml bottles, this is the perfect beer to drink by the fire at the end of an evening. And if you’re feeling generous, it makes an incredibly classy gift for your favourite beer lover (even if that is yourself).

Haandbryggeriet Black Canvas American Porter...$7.99 / 14.9oz can

Brewed in Drammen, Norway, Black Canvas is Haandbryggeriet’s technical interpretation of a modern American porter—dark and resinous yet balanced by deft fermentation control. The grist features a blend of pale, crystal, chocolate, and roasted barley malts that generate deep espresso tones and layers of cocoa and burnt sugar. A focused American hop schedule of Centennial and Cascade provides firm bitterness (~45 IBU) and pine-citrus aromatics without overwhelming the roast. Fermented clean with an American ale yeast strain at moderate temperatures, the beer finishes dry with moderate carbonation and a lingering roast snap. It’s a precision-built dark ale that bridges classic U.S. porter character with Norwegian craftsmanship.

Brewed at West Flanders’ boutique De Leite Brewery, this 6% ABV release is matured in both whisky and rum barrels, picking up warm vanillin, subtle oak tannin, tropical spice, and a gentle molasses edge without losing its crisp Belgian yeast profile. The result is a brilliantly balanced hybrid: lively, citrus-driven bitterness interwoven with soft barrel sweetness, making Fils a Papa No. 17 one of the most distinctive and small-batch barrel-aged ales.
