Lustau Sherry - some of the greatest!

"Lustau made its reputation in the foreign markets with its extraordinary single cask Almacenistas which had been accumulated by the family over many years as their soleras are among the oldest in Sherry....These are all remarkable efforts for their stunning value. While they are still under-the-radar for most American wine lovers, I encourage readers to give them a try as they are great introductory reference points for how profound sherry can be....they can be as profound as any alcoholic beverage in the world."
- Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate (2012)

Lustau Sherry Manzanilla Papirusa...$19.99
100% Palomino
MANZANILLA IN IT’S HIGHEST EXPRESSION
Very dry and very floral. Aging under flor in Sanlucar de Barrameda, in a humid microclimate under the influence of the sea breeze from the mouth of the Guadalquivir River, which marks his character extremely dry, light and sharp. A unique manzanilla sherry within that year after year has earned the highest awards in competitions most prestigious international wines.
The origin of the name Papirusa is Argentina and means “beautiful and elegant” and was the name of Emilio Lustau doll gift to the daughter of the manager of Bodegas Lustau in the 40s.
D.O. Manzanilla Sanlúcar de Barrameda
15 % Alcohol
5 Years
Profile: Very Dry
The non-vintage Light Manzanilla Papirusa Solera Reserva (with an average age of five years in this solera) possesses an extraordinary, penetrating nose of salty brined nuts intermixed with crisp fruit, terrific acidity and intense, powerful, authoritative flavors that are ethereal in their lightness.
Rated 92/100 Robert Parker (2012)

Lustau East India Solera Cream Sherry...$27.99
Palomino y Pedro Ximénez
Dark mahogany in colour with green-amber edge. It offers vibrant notes of maple syrup, brown sugar, shoe polish, raisin and chocolate beer nuts, all very well integrated. On the palate it is smooth and rich at the beginning, full of prune and burned oranges peel flavours. Provocative spicy notes appear just before its nuttiness and terrific acidity cuts through the sweetness. With a truly unforgettable finish.
Each wine (Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez) is matured, separately in its own solera for 12 years. Once blended together, the resulting sherry is returned to a 45-cask solera for a further 3 years ageing. In centuries gone by, casks with sherry were lashed to ships sailing for the Indies and were found to develop an extraordinary smoothness and complexity. Lustau has revived this style of sherry in the East India wine.
ALCOHOL: 20 %
AVERAGE AGE:15Years

Lustau Sherry Oloroso Don Nuño...$27.99
100% Palomino
Aged following an oxidative ageing for 12 years in Bodega La Campana in Jerez de la Frontera.
Dark bronze colour with golden rim. Pungent nutty aromas with a smoky wood background. Rich flavours of bitter chocolate, walnuts and baked chestnuts. This Oloroso wine has an intense, concentrated aftertaste, lightened by a tangy acidity.
ALCOHOL: 20 %
AVERAGE AGE: 12 Years
"If you are looking for a dry sherry made in a slightly more oxidized style, the non-vintage Dry Oloroso Don Nuno Solera Reserva is your choice. Again, a nuttiness (in this case, walnuts) intermixed with a hint of Chinese black tea combine with salty, caramelized flavors make for a delicious glass of sherry."
Rated 94/100 Robert Parker (2012)

Lustau Sherry Fino Jarana...$19.99
100% Palomino
Fino Jarana
Pale straw colour with greenish reflections, bright and clean. This is a Jerez style Fino: fresh, mineral and pungent on the nose with almonds and bakery notes. Dry and crisp on the palate, yet rich and with a full finish.
Aged under a veil of yeast, called “flor”, in Bodega Las Cruces in Jerez de la Frontera. The inland climate in the town of Jerez de la Frontera provides a more rounded and fuller style of wine.
ALCOHOL: 15 %
AVERAGE AGE: 4Years
PROFILE: Bone Dry

Lustaru Sherry Amontillado Los Arcos...$19.99
100% Palomino
Aged for equal periods under “flor” and in contact with the oxygen, in Bodega Emperatriz Eugenia in Jerez de la Frontera. This dry Amontillado acquires a genuine, rich and nutty flavour through years of ageing. Amber in colour, with hazelnut aromas on the nose. Light, soft and round on the palate, with a long aftertaste.
There were two arches at the entrance to the winery at Plaza del Cubo, where this Amontillado was aged. Each one was dedicated to one of Emilio Lustau’s sons’ wives: Arco de Zuri (for Emilio Lustau Ruiz-Berdejo’s wife) and Trini (wife of José Luis Lustau Ruiz-Berdejo)
ALCOHOL: 18.5 %
AVERAGE AGE: 8 Years
PROFILE: Dry
"The non-vintage Dry Amontillado Los Arcos Solera Reserva reveals a medium amber hue along with a nutty, honeyed, dry personality with great acid."
Rated 93/100 Robert Parker (2012)
