Amazing 2016 Favia Wines -huge scores from everyone!

Husband and wife duo Andy Erickson and Annie Favia are two of Napa Valley’s brightest stars—little wonder, given their backgrounds: Andy’s first winemaking job was at Newton, working with Chardonnay-producing legend John Kongsgaard, and then as Bob Levy’s assistant at Harlan, while Bond was being built. Later, he became the winemaker at Screaming Eagle, Ovid, Arietta, Dalla Valle, and, most recently, for Mayacamas. Annie’s viticultural work began with legendary grower David Abreu, where she had a hand in farming some of Napa’s greatest vineyards, like Ovid, Sloan, Bryant Family, Colgin, Harlan, Screaming Eagle, and Staglin.

2016 Favia La Magdalena Red Wine Napa Valley...$174.99
The 2016 La Magdalena is superb. Dense, pliant and richly textured, with supremely beautiful inner perfume and depth, the 2016 has so much to offer. Super-ripe red cherry, plum, wild flowers, espresso, mint, rose petal and spice notes abound in this mid-weight, yet deeply flavored Cabernet Sauvignon. Just as it was from barrel, La Magdalena is wonderfully lifted and nuanced..
Rated 97/100 Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media
Slightly deeper and richer, with powerful notes of purple and blue fruits, the 2016 La Magdalena (55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon) offers up complex spring flowers, violets, and graphite notes, full body, thrilling purity of fruit, present tannins, and a great, great finish. There’s plenty of underlying structure here and the cellar is going to be your friend. Regardless, it’s a gorgeous wine.

This is rock-solid, with a beautiful core of cassis, plum preserves and raspberry pâte de fruit, framed by a light ganache note before ending with roasted apple wood and anise accents. The brambly energy is buried within, allowing the fruit and grip to meld steadily through the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2020 through 2033. 276 cases made.
Rated 95/100 Wine Spectator

This is really pretty with blackcurrant and lead-pencil aromas and flavors. Solid core of fruit to the firm and lightly chewy tannins. It’s polished and so real. Focused. Needs four or five years to soften, but already a joy to taste. Try after 2024.

This is a really exciting red that shows wonderful opulence of blue fruit and minerals with some walnuts. It’s full-bodied with intense tannins and fruit, yet it tightens down at the finish. Remains cool and poised. Try after 2022.
Rated 98/100 James Suckling
