Thanksgiving 2017 Wine Recommendations

Here are a few suggestions, but visit any of our 4 stores for many more choices!

Thanksgiving Wines
Thanksgiving is my favorite wine Holiday, with so many flavors and dishes on the table you can really drink whatever you like and it's bound to go perfectly with something on the table. We always struggle with the question of what is the perfect Thanksgiving wine, because really the perfect Thanksgiving wine is the one you want to drink the most. So we have come up with a few suggestions from our 4 locations -- Aaron, Wine Buyer Forsyth location

Aaron recommends....
NV Joel Falmet Brut Rose Champagne....$49.99
Thanksgiving is not complete without a glass of bubbly to start things off. This rose is nothing if not a perfect start to an evening, or afternoon for that matter. The Falmet Rose is light enough to kick things off but packed with flavor and would suite you well for the entire evening. I can't say it enough, we all need to drink more Champagne!

Aaron recommends....
2015 Joseph Drouhin Cotes de Beaune Villages....$26.99
The purity of the 2015 vintages shines through in this wine and it is an absolute joy to drink. I could not be more pleased with this beautiful bottle of Burgundy at an outstanding price.
Rated 89-92/100 The Wine Spectator

Rated 92/100 James Suckling

Aaron recommends....
2015 Lavantureux Chablis VV...$25.99
We were tipped off to this amazing Chablis producer from one of our longtime customers, we are always happy to get tips! What a great wine, superb intensity and length, while mantianing quite a friendly amount of fruit up front. A wonderful pair with the bounty of the Thanksgiving Table

Rated 91/100 The Wine Advocate

Kole (Rock Hill Location) recommends....
2016 Siduri Willamette Valley Pinot Noir...$19.98
This wine really screams Thanksgiving for me. It has loads fresh and juicy red fruit flavors up front, while finishing with just the right amount of spice. The great mouth-feel and balanced acidity will help you wash down all that turkey. A perfect substitute for cranberry sauce, and we have it at a fantastic price!

Kole (Rock Hill Location) recommends....
2015 Domaine Lancyre Roussanne....$19.99
The new vintage of this South French white really impressed me. Made from 85% Roussanne plus a bit of Viognier and Marsanne, it displays both richness and elegance, and will pair with everything. It's a real crowd pleaser, with enough complexity to keep even the most sophisticated wine drinkers interested.
Rated 94/100 Wine & Spirits

Kole (Rock Hill Location) recommends....
2015 Fronton de Oro Tinto....$17.99
Don't overlook this non traditional red! Made from 100% listan negro grapes, this esoteric red from the Canary Islands is a great pairing for fall cuisine. Medium bodied with notes of white pepper, nutmeg, and dried cherry, it finishes smoothly with a just a hint of smoke. Give it an about an hour of air before enjoying!

Chris (Internet wine manager) recommends....
GD VAJRA Freisa Kye $33.99
An obscure yet absolutely delicious wine from Piedmont. Floral and expressive, with much more restraint than your typical Freisa. This has the elegance of Pinot Noir but enough body to please a Cab lover.
Rated 93 Points Antonio Galloni

Chris (Internet wine manager) recommends....
2014 Maison L'Envoye Fleurie Monopole Beaujolais...$15.98
You rarely encounter a single-vineyard Beaujolais at this price! Bursting with blue and red fruits, with a hint of licorice. Very complex. Put down the Nouveau and go for this instead!
Rated 92/100 Vinous Media

Paul (Forsyth) recommends....
2016 Commanderie of Bargemone Rosé...$18.99
Bargemone is consistently one of our favorite Rose wines each year and the press always scores it 90 or higher each year.  This Rose has enough body to stand up to your Thanksgiving dinner and it looks festive in the glass!   Plus it is sustainably grown too.
Light bright orange. Mineral-accented citrus fruit and red berry scents show very good clarity and pick up a suave floral note with aeration. Chewy and tightly wound, offering juicy cherry and red currant flavors that slowly put on weight as the wine stretches out. Shows good tension and cut on the finish, which lingers with strong, minerally persistence.
Rated 90/100 Vinous Media
Rated 91/100 Wine Enthusiast

Paul (Forsyth) recommends....
2014 Cast Zinfandel Dry Creek Grey Palm Vineyard....$19.99
The cheapest price on Wine-Searcher is $32
Zinfandel is a great choice with Thanksgiving.  It has such great fruit like blackberry and raspberry along with some savory spice quality that matches so well with Turkey. Enjoy.
Tasting notes: The newest release of our popular estate zinfandel is fresh and youthful. The nose elicits the scents of raspberry, Bing cherry and rose petals. In the mouth plum, black pepper and nutmeg dance on the tongue. For a young wine the finish is soft, pleasing and well balanced.

Paul (Forsyth) recommends....
2016 Salvard Unique Sauvignon Blanc...$13.99
This Sauvignon Blanc is crisp and dry with no oak which makes it perfect for Thanksgiving.  The acidity cleans the palate and keeps it fresh for the next bite.
"Out of the vast sea of Sauvignon, few offer as much value and are as downright quaffable as the Unique from Domaine du Salvard....features fresh, juicy fruit and zingy acidity—a wine that quenches thirst and awakens the senses while proving that Sauvignon can offer pure hedonistic pleasure. "—Anthony Lynch
