(made from vines planted in 1926): Lurid violet color. Potent dark berry, licorice and espresso aromas are lifted by a sexy floral nuance. Chewy and broad-shouldered, with weighty blackberry and bitter cherry flavors that stretch out slowly with air. Shows very good energy and lift on the long, mineral-tinged finish, which leaves a smoky, minerally note behind. This youthful wine demands patience.

The 2013 Morgon Corcelette Vieilles Vignes, from vines located just a stone’s throw from the winery on sandy soils and matured in foudres, has a more endearing and engaging bouquet compared to the Côte de Brouilly, with lively cranberry and wild strawberry scents intermingling with light, dried tobacco notes. The palate is medium-bodied with light but firm tannin that give the fruit sufficient backbone. There is a commendable precision to this Morgon with delineation and composure toward the finish. This should age nicely over several years.
