A little more education: We are going to try to feature either a grape or a wine region each week at our stores. We will give you some background information on the grape or region and feature a wine that highlights what we are featuring. We will taste that wine on Saturday at all four of our locations. We will post it here in our blog and send it out in our emails - click here to sign up for our emails

On our blog, click on the label "Education" and you can read all of the education articles (see the right column under the heading "labels".Appellation Focus

Naoussa, Greece
Naoussa is an appellation in western Macedonia, in the north of Greece. The region was the first to be delimited as such in Greece in 1971 and served as a model for the Greek appellation system in the following years. Structured, savory red wines are made in Naousa from the Xynomavro grape variety, the best examples of which are considered among the best red wines from Greece.

The region’s relation with vine and wine also has its roots on the lush green slopes of Mount Vermion. According to mythology, this was the home of Semele – the mother of Dionysus, god of vine and wine – and the area where Silenus, Dionysus’s inseparable companion and friend, roamed.

Come taste the 2011 Thymioupoulos Vineyards Xinomavro Young Vines
( $13.99 90/100 The Wine Advocate) this weekend at all 4 The Wine and Cheese Place locations.
