2010 Elio Altare “ La Villa”...$75.99

Not surprisingly, the 2010 La Villa, a blend of 60% Barbera and 40% Nebbiolo, is gorgeous. Nebbiolo gives the aromatics and structure, while Barbera provides the mid-palate juiciness. Some years the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, but in 2010 that isn't quite the case. Of course, the 2010 has just been bottled, so that might still happen. Today, the 2010 is a striking, beautiful wine, but in this tasting it suffers being placed after the Larigi and Arborina. Still, most producers would kill to have a wine like this in their cellars.
Rated 95+/100 Antonio Galloni, Vinious Media

2010 Elio Altare Langhe Larigi...$79.99
Altare's 2010 Langhe Larigi (Barbera) stands out for its exceptional textural finesse and elegance. Small red berries, flowers and mint are all woven together beautifully in the glass. The 2010 was aged in 100% new barrels, but there is absolutely not a hint of oak, and the fruit is incredibly pure and vivid. The 2010 isn't one of the biggest Larigis to emerge from this cellar, but it is certainly one of the most polished. Altare elevates Barbera to an entirely new level with a fabulous Larigi that bears more than a passing resemblance to the Burgundies that are so adored at this small, family-run domaine.
Rated 97/100 Antonio Galloni, Vinious Media

2010 Elio Altare Langhe Arborina...$89.99
The 2010 Langhe Arborina (Nebbiolo) is another extraordinary effort. Sweet red berries, crushed flowers, mint and licorice literally jump from the glass. Here, too, the wine's balance is exceptional. Expressive floral notes add lift to a finish framed by the most finessed, silky tannins imaginable. The pedigree of the vintage comes through in spades. All I can say is: Wow!
Rated 98/100 Antonio Galloni, Vinious Media

2008 Elio Altare Barolo...$66.99
The 2008 Barolo is a striking wine. This is all finesse and grace. Dark red cherries, flowers, spices, mint and minerals are some of the nuances that flow from this beautifully delineated, gorgeous Barolo. Floral notes reappear to frame the sublime finish. Altare's straight Barolo doesn't get as much recognition as some of his other wines, but it is once again fabulous in 2008.
Rated 93/100 Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

2009 Elio Altare Barolo...$66.99
The 2009 Barolo has serious depth and power. The aromatics and fruit have the radiance and openness of the warm year, but then the young Nebbiolo tannins kick in. As appealing as the 2009 is, readers are best served cellaring the wine for at least a few years. A sensual, floral-infused finish rounds things out nicely. The Barolo is made principally from vineyards in Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga.
Rated 92/100 Antonio Galloni, Vinious Media

2009 Elio Altare Barolo Arborina....$91.99
The 2009 Barolo Arborina demonstrates a pretty floral quality with pressed rose and spots of lavender oil. Expressive and beautifully intense, the wine is crafted to show the delicate and more feminine side to the Altare portfolio. Silky and fine, the mouthfeel is streamlined and crisp. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2032.
Rated 94/100 The Wine Advocate

2009 Elio Altare Barolo Brunate...$129.99
The 2009 Barolo Brunate is a true standout. Readers who want to understand why Brunate is one of Barolo's great vineyards need to taste the Arborina and Brunate side by side. Here, the wine's layered, vivid personality stands in stark contrast to the other 2009s. Sweet balsamic notes develop in the glass, but today the 2009 is of course quite primary and in need of serious cellaring. The prominent 2009 tannins are there, but the fruit is so deep and rich as to nearly bury them.
Rated 96/100 Antonio Galloni, Vinious Media

2006 Elio Altare Barolo "Cerretta Vigna Bricco"...$119.99
Fresh and aromatic, this red is packed with sweet cherry, leather, clove and iron flavors. Fused to a bed of stiff, mouthcoating tannins, with a long aftertaste of sweet spice and mineral. Still a baby, but well-balanced and beginning to develop. Best from 2015 through 2035.
Rated 96/100 The Wine Spectator

2012 Elio Altare Dolcetto D’Alba $17.99
2012 Elio Altare Barbera D’Alba $19.99

Colour: dark purple and intense
Taste: warm, full, soft, with acidity, long finish of red fruits
Bouquet: elegant hints of blackberry, sweet spices
Serving suggestion: antipasti, pasta, cheese and salami
