Goose Island Bourbon County Stout Update! 2014

Goose Island Bourbon County Stout

We are going through the BRC - BREWard this year.

BCS through BRC

Always trying to mix it up a bit.  Here is what we are doing.

PART 1
The top 10 overall supporters on BRC and the top 10 Goose Island* supporters will get a mixed 4 pack reserved for them....based on sales from September 24-November 24.
  • 2 bottles of Bourbon County Stout
  • 1 bottle Bourbon County Barleywine
  • 1 bottle Bourbon County Coffee

This email has been sent already, so that you already know if you have a mixed 4 pack.

This must be picked up between November 28th and December 5th.
* I just checked, looks like it does not take much to get into the top 10 Goose Island at this point.  Plus we have Goose Island Sofie on sale right now! see the specials.  Again, our BCS allocation is based on our Goose Island sales.  We want to support those supporting Goose Island to help us get more.

PART 2
And for the rest of our allocation of the Bourbon County Stout only (no variants)
EMAILS SENT
Let us say we have 100 sets of 2 bottles left.  I will email the next top 200 people on our BRC list.  It will be first come first served at the store after I send the email out.  No reservations.  Basically you will have 50% chance to get 2 bottles of Bourbon County Stout.   I will separate it by store.   The other stores email might have to be on a different day depending on when our delivery arrives.  I will update when I have more details.  But if 20 people qualified that normally shop at New Ballas, 10 sets will be sent to New Ballas and so on for the other stores.

PART 3
Also, we will save 4 bottles of BCS, 2 bottles of Barleywine, and 2 bottles of Coffee to open up for our tasting at 4pm on Friday, November 28th.  Just a little for people to taste that come to our regular Friday night tasting at Forsyth.  We will have other beers out to taste also.

Let me know if you have any questions.  This sounds clear in my head, but sometimes it only sounds clear in my head and not others.

I only recently discovered your store after moving to the area a few months ago. I know I have no chance to qualify this year for an email because I'm a new customer, but looking to the future I'm curious why you don't count YTD spending in favor of spending between late SEP and late NOV? If someone spent a few hundred to add to their scotch collection earlier in 2014, that wouldn't count for anything based on the allocation system being used this year. It seems to possibly alienate good customers while favoring those who happened to maybe buy more during a limited time period. In a way, you're possibly encouraging people to hold off on spending until late in the year.

I believe that only beer purchases count toward the BRC allocations. Maybe someone else will chime in with confirmation.

Also, I don't think it took much spending to receive an allocation email this time around.

We decided to mostly do the previous 2 months before a release. Like you said, if you are new then you would not stand a chance if we did YTD. You could never catch up with someone that has been buying for the last 10 months. Sometimes we will do a longer period. We will reward YTD totals at the end of the year. We keep trying to mix it up a bit to be fair. As far as people holding out to purchase, that is possible, but there are so many releases throughout the year. We just did Abraxas, 2nd Shift BA LSD and Blueprint LSD, BA Narwhal, Tilquin Squared, Prairie Bomb! and Pirate Bomb! we have Founders Big Luscious coming. There seems to be at lease a few per month. That being said, if you know when your favorite beer is being released and you want to make sure you get that, you can use the strategy of holding off purchasing until a month or two before the release date.

We rotate on the BRC, sometimes we do beer only purchases, sometimes total purchases, and sometimes total units purchased. That way a 6 pack of beer counts the same as a bottle of bourbon or scotch sometimes.

Would the store be open to disclosing how much spending it took to receive some BCS? Just trying to gauge how much money I need to ensure I'm spending in the future to be high on the list.

Looks like about $160 over the course of 2 months.
