2007 Catena Malbec Argentino...$94.99 / bottle
"The 2007 Argentino Malbec is a blend of the Nicasia and Adrianna cuvees. Since I have been tasting the Catena wines, this has generally been my preference because it seems to have an extra dimension of complexity. So it is with the 2007 vintage. The Argentino offers a similar aromatic and flavor profile, but with just a bit of extra nuance. It will be most enjoyable to taste these 3 wines side-by-side in another 10 years (or, to be truthful, at any time)."

2007 Catena Malbec Adrianna...$94.99 / bottle
The 2007 Adrianna Vineyard Malbec is a similar purple/black in color with an expressive bouquet of sandalwood, Asian spices, incense, mineral, black cherry, and black raspberry. Opulent on the palate with serious extraction, great depth of flavor, complexity, and impeccable balance, this loaded, potent effort will evolve for at least 5-7 years and see its 20th birthday in prime condition.

2007 Catena Malbec Nicasia....$94.99 / bottle
The single vineyard Malbecs begin with the 2007 Nicasia Vineyard Malbec. It was barrel-fermented and aged for 18 months in 100% new oak including a racking into a second set of new barrels (the so-called “200% new oak” treatment). A glass-coating opaque purple/black in color, it offers up a splendid nose of toasty new oak, earth notes, exotic spices, black cherry and black raspberry. This is followed by a plush, layered, intensely flavored wine with potential complexity, precision balance, and a seamless finish. Give it 4-6 years of cellaring and drink it through 2027, probably longer, these wines have no track record of longevity.

2007 Catena "Zapata"...$94.99 / bottle
The flagship, the 2007 Nicolas Catena Zapata, a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Malbec, and the balance Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. It delivers an enthralling aromatic array of pain grille, pencil lead, mineral, espresso, mocha, incense, lavender, black currant, black cherry, and blackberry. This leads to a full-bodied, powerful yet elegant effort with great depth and volume, precision balance, and a voluptuous personality (a D-cup of a wine). It conceals plenty of structure and will effortlessly evolve for 6-8 years, drinking well through 2032 if not longer.
Rated 98/100 The Wine Advocate
