The cool 2023 vintage provided the perfect conditions for outstanding Pinot Noir. The wine shows the complexity that accompanies a longer growing season, with concentrated red fruits and pitch-perfect acidity. A kiss of new French oak on the finish rounds out the wine - allowing it to be drunk by itself at the end of the day, or paired with a wide variety of medium bodied foods. It was bottled unfined and unfiltered A Special Wine for a Special Cause.

Adam Lee, winemaker
Robert Parker, one of the most influential voices in wine criticism, held a strong admiration for Adam Lee's work at Siduri Wines. Parker’s advocacy helped Siduri's wines, especially their Pinot Noir, gain significant recognition. One standout moment was early in Siduri’s history when Parker rated one of Lee’s Pinot Noirs as among the top ten produced in California—a powerful endorsement that set Siduri on a path to prominence. Parker consistently praised Siduri for its dedication to varietal purity and quality across different regions, with Lee's approach capturing the essence of terroir from Oregon down to Santa Barbara.

In addition to quality, Lee's progressive move to screw caps on all Siduri wines by 2011 earned him further respect from Parker. Lee was ahead of his time in combating cork taint—a decision that Parker, a long-time critic of cork issues, found refreshing and innovative. This shift, along with Lee’s precision in Pinot Noir, reinforced his reputation as one of California’s leading Pinot Noir specialists​

The wine is a combination of fruit from the Sierra Madre Vineyard in Santa Maria and the Peake Ranch Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills. It all went through malolactic fermentation - with aging in all French barrels.

Rounded out by a kiss of French oak, the wine gains mid-palate weight before finishing crisp, once again showing it’s cool origins. Grapes are picked from two outstanding vineyards – one in the cool, high-acid Sta. Rita hills and the other in (still cool) somewhat richer Santa Maria flatlands. The combination of these two areas – carefully blended – produces a chardonnay that balances lushness with backbone – new world with old.

Pántáo is our beloved Danish Wild Ale with White Saturn Peaches. Pántáo is bursting with fresh white peach flavor, with a balanced acidity that brings a unique freshness that can be incredibly challenging to capture in a beer. For maceration we chose 1-2 year old Danish Wild Ale barrels, with an average age of just over 18 months. The peaches then macerated (with stones) in the beer for 6 weeks. After maceration, we added a bit of 3 year old Danish Wild Ale to round out the complexity, bringing an incredible amount of character that can only be balanced out by over 700 grams of fresh, succulent white Saturn peaches per liter of beer -Baghaven

Mikkeller Baghaven Rubus of Rose is a unique wild ale crafted by Mikkeller’s Baghaven brewery, located in Copenhagen. It’s part of their rustic series, which focuses on wild and mixed fermentation beers aged in oak barrels with various fruit infusions. Rubus of Rose is typically brewed using a blend of Danish barley and wheat, combined with wild yeast strains and bacteria.

The flavor profile of Rubus of Rose is layered and complex, driven by the addition of fresh raspberries (Rubus idaeus) during the aging process, which imparts a deep, vibrant color and an intense, fruity aroma. The beer balances tartness with a subtle sweetness from the raspberries, underscored by earthy, funky notes typical of a well-executed wild ale. On the palate, you’ll often find hints of floral rose alongside the bright, juicy berry character, giving it a slightly vinous quality reminiscent of a fruit-forward natural wine.

Rich and oily owing to rye malt. Within 36 months of its minimum shelf life, it becomes smoother and acquires more and more dark fruit notes.

A sensational Troplong. Vibrant and vivid, this makes you smile from the first smell: milk chocolate, floral notes of roses and lavender, wet stones, liquorice, cinnamon and ripe bramble fruits. Round and thrilling on the palate, tannins are abundant with a chalky blueberry coolness while a salty tang settles around the mouth. Lovely precision and purity of fruit; you feel the sharp definition - still linear which makes it less immediately charming than the 2019 but giving undeniable complexity. Deep but not heady, this remains pure and detailed, with a leanness from the terroir really setting this apart. After a few minutes, the glamour starts to appear giving a salivating, succulent and moreish aspect to the finish. An absolute beauty.

The 2020 Troplong Mondot may prove to be even better than the brilliant 2019, and it is one of the Right Bank's finest wines in this vintage. Unwinding in the glass with deep aromas of mulberries, blackberries and red cherries mingled with hints of rose petal, licorice and exotic spices, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with a satiny attack that segues into a vibrant, polished mid-palate, concluding with a long, resonant finish. Having seen only 65% new oak and with malolactic fermentation completed in tank rather than in barrel, it's remarkably pure and seamless. With the 2020 vintage, this estate's stylistic redemption appears to be complete.

The 2020 Troplong Mondot is fabulous. Rich dark and expansive the 2020 is wonderfully exuberant right out of the gate. Black cherry plum gravel incense and licorice are all dialed up. There's tremendous breadth and power but without the excess weight of the past. Even so the 2020 is a big big wine that needs the better part of a decade to soften. All the classic Troplong structure is there but buffered by vibrant acids and tons of supporting minerality. Harvest started on September 5 and finished on October 8 a very wide window for the Right Bank and a reminder of how different the parcels are. The 2020 was done in 60% new oak 12% foudres 28% once-used barrels.

A clear step up over the 2019, the 2020 Château Troplong Mondot is mostly Merlot yet includes 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc, all of which was raised in 65% new French oak, with the balance in once-used barrels. The level of purity and finesse here is remarkable, and it reveals a deep ruby/purple hue as well as incredible aromatics of cassis, ripe black cherries, graphite, gunpowder, and spring flowers. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has building, perfectly ripe tannins, flawless balance, and a great finish. Certainly light years away from the riper, more opulent style of the 2000's, the wines today under consultant Thomas Duclos are much more about finesse and elegance. While I certainly miss the sexy, riper style of the past, there is no denying the incredible quality from this château today.

To raise the ceiling for quality, sometimes you have to literally raise the ceiling. Proprietor Jean-Charles Cazes and winemaker Nicolas Labenne completed a massive new winery in time for the 2020 harvest, christening it with a classic-quality wine. Lynch Bages has long been beloved in the U.S. (and has been affectionately nicknamed “lunch bags” within some English-speaking wine circles). Its 1985 vintage won Wine of the Year honors in 1988. This is the flagship property in the Cazes family business, which includes six estates in France as well as a hotel and restaurants in the charming town of Bages itself. The 2020 vintage proves once again that the estate punches well above its fifth-growth classification. The 2020 grand vin offers a beautiful take on modern Bordeaux, with pure cassis and violet notes leading off, followed by waves of sweet tobacco and iron.
