Stephane Aviron exciting new releases

For the past 4 years I have been lucky enough to attend the Frederick Wildman Vintage Preview Burgundy Tasting, one of the few tastings I make sure to attend each year - it is a can't miss event for me. It is a rare opportunity to taste through a wide range of wines while getting insight from the producers themselves. While I cherish the chance to taste Armand Rousseau's Chambertin, being poured by Cyril Rousseau, or hear from Erwin Faiveley himself which of his Grand Cru's are standouts of the vintage, the table I always hit first is Stephane Aviron and his line up of Cru Beaujolais. Unlike the Burgundy producers, who show a lineup from Village level up to Grand Cru, Aviron has a set of wines all made in the same fashion, no one Cru is treated above the rest, it is a very straightforward set of wines that show the purity of the vintage and vineyard. Sustainability: Biodynamic Practices

2017 Stephane Aviron Chenas...$18.99
Aviron's 2017 Chénas Vieilles Vignes is showing beautifully, unfurling in the glass with a lavish bouquet of cherries, strawberries and red fruit compote. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, with a fleshy core of fruit, ripe acids and powdery, largely concealed tannins. This is an expressive, charming Chénas that's already hard to resist.

2017 Stephane Aviron St Amour...$21.99
(my personal favorite from the tasting)
Bursting with aromas of succulent red cherries and raspberries, the 2017 Saint-Amour Vieilles Vignes is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and concentrated, with a deep and layered core, lively acids and powdery, entirely hidden tannins, concluding with a long and sapid finish. This is a decidedly serious effort from Aviron that's well worth seeking out.

2017 Stephane Aviron Morgon Cote du Py...$19.99
Aviron's 2017 Morgon Côte du Py Vieilles Vignes is showing very well, unfurling in the glass with a lovely bouquet of cherries, raspberries, smoked meats, dark chocolate and peonies. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, with a fleshy core of fruit, fine and powdery tannins and succulent acids, concluding with a nicely defined finish. This is sourced from Jean-Marc Burgaud, and it shares more than a few characteristics with his own Côte du Py bottling in this vintage.
