We are thrilled to welcome Tyler Thomas, newly appointed winemaker from Dierberg Vineyards and Star Lane Vineyards and St Louis native, for a fantastic tasting. Tyler, though new to Dierberg and Star Lane has been a rising star among California winemakers for the last several years, even garnering a perfect 100 Point score from Robert Parker in his most recent review of California's North Coast
(Donelan Family Wines Syrah Richard's Vineyard scored a perfect 100).
We have long been fans of the Dierberg and Star Lane wines here at The Wine and Cheese Place, please join us to taste what we believe to be some of California's Central Coasts best wines.
  • 2012 Star Lane Sauvignon Blanc
  • 2011 Dierberg Chardonnay
  • 2010 Dierberg Drum Canyon Pinot Noir
  • 2009 Dierberg Santa Maria Pinot Noir
  • 2010 Star Lane Cabernet
  • 2007 Star Lane Astral

Tyler Thomas has been appointed winemaker for two of Santa Barbara County’s popular wine producers, Dierberg Vineyards and Star Lane Vineyards, both owned by the Dierberg Family.
Thomas will oversee production at the wineries, both located within the greater Santa Barbara County appellation. Dierberg Vineyards produces site-driven Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays from its estate vineyards in Sta. Rita Hills and Santa Maria.

Star Lane is located in the Happy Canyon sub-appellation, where the focus is on producing Bordeaux-variety-based wines of elegance and typicity.

Thomas completed his B.S. and M.S. degrees in botany at Colorado State University, and received a masters in viticulture and enology at U.C. Davis. Before joining Dierberg and Star Lane, he was the winemaker at Donelan Family Wines in Sonoma County.

He credits his French grandmother for instilling in him a profound appreciation for all things epicurean.

“I’m am very happy to be calling Santa Barbara County my new home. I have long admired both the people and the wines from the area and am excited to get the chance to work with such incredible estate properties. We have loved living in Sonoma County, and we’re looking forward to setting down some roots in Santa Barbara,” said Thomas.
